I scour the city streets for that most temporary body of water - the puddle! As subject matter for painting, what could be more ordinary than that! But in thatmatter for painting, what could be more ordinary than that! But in that puddle I see the universe, in that flotsam, subject matter, in that reflection, content.

Water reflects our emotions, awakens the senses, and excites imagination.

My paintings are an exploration of spatial fragmentation and the balancing of shifting perspectives. I use the New York City as my main subject, creating upside urban spaces both familiar and unrecognizable. With my collagist sensibility, I create structures that reveal the unnoticed beauty and complexity of our urban environment, and call attention to its fragile beauty.  Normal rules of perspective are no longer in play: what was once solid is now liquid; what was once above me, is now below the surface - as though this normally overlooked glimpse allows me to look deeper.  There could be stillness, as in a mirror reflection, or a ripple from the wind, or a great wave from a passing bike or car, distorting what was once intact. My paintings peer into shimmering wet sidewalks, sculpturesque fire escapes,  street corners softened with verdant trees or iconic architecture.  If my paintings disorient, the viewer must stop, attempt to reassemble, and to rebuild the connections tt allow the viewer to restabilize.   My paintings in their crystalized glimpse of something ephemeral, call attention to the very nature of perception itself.
